The (Israeli) Blockade and Starvation in Gaza: A War Crime Between the Provisions of International Law and the Duties of the International Community

Dr. Mohammed Hassan Saad

With the outbreak of the (Israeli)* war on the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023, more than two million people faced a catastrophic humanitarian reality manifested in the occupying power’s (Israel’s) cutting off of electricity and water, preventing the entry of food and fuel, and imposing a suffocating blockade on all crossings. These policies were not entirely new, as the Strip has been under a severe blockade for more than seventeen years. Yet, during this war, they assumed a harsher and more explicit dimension, being openly declared as a systematic strategy aimed at subjugating the civilian population by depriving them of the basic necessities of life.
